PresidentMiguel Castanho Miguel Castanho is full professor of Biochemistry at the School of Medicine, University of Lisbon (Portugal), and principal investigator at the Institute of Molecular Medicine, Lisbon, Portugal. He is the coordinator of the Physical Biochemistry Unit and his main research interests relate to antibody and peptide-lipid interactions. HIV fusion inhibitors, antimicrobial peptides, cell-penetrating peptides, analgesic peptides and amyloidogenic peptides are among the molecules under study. |

Vice-PresidentFrancisco Ambrósio Francisco Ambrósio is a Principal Investigator at Institute of Biomedical Research on Light and Image (IBILI), Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra, where he coordinates the Ocular and Brain Pharmacology Group. Presently, his main research interests are on retinal degenerative diseases, particularly on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. |

General SecretaryJoão Laranjinha João Laranjinha is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Coimbra and group leader (Free Radicals and Antioxidants in Biomedical Research) at Center for Neurosciences and Cell Biology of Coimbra, Portugal. . His main scientific interests include: (1) the molecular mechanisms inherent to neuromodulation and aging that critically involve free radicals and oxidants, in particular those involving nitric oxide; (2) the reduction of nitrite to nitric oxide in vivo by diet-derived compounds and ensued regulatory process with impact in physiology and in pathology. |

TreasurerJoão Varela João Varela is Auxiliary Professor at University of Algarve and is group leader of the Biotechnology and Molecular Biology of Microalgae at the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR) and the Associate Laboratory CIMAR. Current research interests are: 1) the eludication of the molecular mechanisms of carotenoid biosynthesis in microalgae; 2) biofuel production by microalgae; and 3) algal natural products for biomedical applications. |

Adjunct SecretaryRoxana Moreira Roxana Moreira is Director of the Department of Sciences of the Higher Institute of Health Sciences (ISCS-N /CESPU), where she coordinates the Biochemistry Degree and the Molecular Therapies Master. She is an investigator of the Investigation Center of Health Science of ISCS-N (CICS) and biotechnology, metabolic engineering, protein secretion in yeast and the expression profile of mitotic checkpoint genes in tumor cell lines are her main research interests. |

Adjunct SecretaryBruno Victor Bruno Victor is a Post-Doc at the Protein Modelling Group, Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, New University of Lisbon. His main research interests are centred in the development and application of molecular modelling techniques to biomolecular structure and function. Nowadays he is involved in the study of viral proteins regulating membrane fusion events and in the study of redox proteins involved in different metabolic mechanisms. |
