Sessions for High School students

The Portuguese Biochemical Society will promote sessions for High School students in the next CNB 2010. Come and take part in a scientific congress, talk with researchers and participate in lectures, round tables or workshops.

Portuguese will be the language of choice for this event. For further informations and registration please go here.

 

SPB Fellowships - CNB 2010

The Portuguese Biochemical Society is happy to announce that fellowships to support students attending the next CNB 2010 will be awarded. Applicants, have to be members of the Portuguese Biochemical Society and have to be the presenting author of an accepted Poster or Oral Communication at the SPB Congress.

We intend to support as many applications as possible, however, due to limited funds, we are able to provide support to a limited number of applicants. For further details, please visit the CNB 2010 web page.

 

SPB prizes in the XVII National Congress of Biochemistry

The Portuguese Biochemical Society together with Take the Wind and Alfagene will award two prizes in the XVII National Congress of Biochemistry that will be held in Porto, between 15th and 17th December 2010. SPBand Take the Wind will award the prize "Connecting Science to People 2010" to encourage the development of original new media for web, mobile or any other platform. The second prize, entitled "SPB Alfagene award", will be awarded by SPB and Alfagene to a young researcher in the field of biochemistry. This prize aims to stimulate research quality and a competitive spirit among young researchers in Portugal.

SPB Outreaching Activities

The Portuguese Biochemical Society is promoting the contact between several portuguese scientists and the general public or more specifically high school teachers, journalists or health professionals.  In an initiative to promote science these scientists are prepared to give conferences or seminars in schools or other institutions. SPB Governing Bodies Elections

TO ALL SPB MEMBERS: Elections of the Portuguese Biochemical Society Governing Bodies will take place during the 17th SPB National Congress. According to the SPB statutes lists can be submitted to the SPB Assembly Board via the secretariat up to one month before the elections. A voting ballot will soon be made available at the SPB web Page for those who want to vote by email. Please contact the secretariat for further information. The deadline for the submission of SPB Governing Bodies list is November 16, 2010.

4th EuPA Meeting

The European Proteomics Association (EuPA) and the Portuguese Proteomics Network (ProCura) have announced that the 4th EuPA Meeting will be held on 23-27 October 2010 in Estoril Congree Center, Estoril, Portugal. For further information, please go to the webpage of the meeting. Early bird registration deadline with extra discount: 10 September 2010. Early bird registration deadline: 15 October 2010. Abstract submission deadline: 16 August 2010. In this meeting it will also be awarded the 2010 Proteomics Photo & Graphics Arts Contest Award. The Metabolic Disease Portuguese Society (SPDM) has announced that the 7th International Symposium of SPDM will be held on 4-5 November 2010 in São Rafael Atlantic Hotel, Algarve, Portugal. Chile's Earthquake: SBBMC needs your help

The Chilean Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology needs your help. Because of the violent earthquake in Chile, this society and their members have lost a significant part of their equipment. SPB joined the effort of raising funds to help our Chilean colleagues get back to their feet. Please read the appeal of Drs. Juan Olate and José Martinez in a letter sent to SPB. If you wish to help, the SWIFT code and the bank account are at end of the letter.

 

The Carex Project

The CAREX project is an European Commission-funded project active since January 1st, 2008. This project tackles the issues of enhancing coordination of research on life in extreme environments in Europe (and internationally) by providing networking and exchange of knowledge opportunities to the scientific community.For more information go to www.carex-eu.org.
