| The Portuguese Biochemical Society (SPB) was founded in 1957 as an independent section of the Lisbon Society of Medical Sciences. It became an autonomous society in 1967 as a result of the introduction of Biochemistry in the curricula of several Portuguese Universities. SPB is governed by an Executive Committee, constituted by one President, one Vice-president, one Treasurer, one Secretary and three Adjunct Secretaries, and a Directive Committee, composed of the Executive Committee members, the former President of the Executive Committee, and the representatives of affiliated societies. The Executive Commission meets regularly at least four times a year. The SPB Generaly Assembly Board has one President, one General Secretary and one Adjunct Secretary and meets in general once a year. SPB has several affiliated organizations, such as the Portuguese Society of Plant Physiology and the Portuguese Biophysical Society. SPB is sponsored by the member fees and has received support by FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia). In addition to the governing bodies and the affiliated organizations, SPB has also research interest groups with the purpose of stimulating research in areas related to biochemistry, such as:
If your area of research is not represented in this list, contact us, as SPB is always receptive to new members who wish to stimulate new areas of research related to biochemistry and molecular biology.
