Scope of the SPB sponsorships
The Portuguese Biochemical Society (SPB)
supports several activities in the scientific field of biochemistry.
Activities supported by SPB are usually scientific meetings. However,
SPB may support other type of activities as long as the proposal has
scientific merit and is in the scientific field of
biochemistry.
Past SPB sponsorships
To view examples of past SPB-sponsored events, go
to the Meetings section of this site. A
recent sponsorship that does not fall in this category was a grant awarded
to the Biochemistry Students Nucleus of the Academic Association of
Coimbra in order to support one of their publications: Revista
RNAm.
How to apply for an SPB sponsorship
From January 2007 on, there are new criteria to apply
successfully for an SPB sponsorship:
- The event must be held in Portugal;
- The event must be a scientific meeting / workshop
/ activity in the field of biochemistry;
- The event must be organized by SPB members or
by affiliated societies - events organized by non-affiliated societies
or non-members will no longer be considered for sponsorship; if that
is the case, you must first apply for an SPB membership at the Members
section of this site;
- The organization of the event must have a relevant
participation of Portuguese scientists;
- The event must have at least 60
delegates - smaller events will no longer be considered for sponsorship unless it is a practical advanced course with at least 20 participants;
- The date of the event must be at least 3
months after the end of the evaluation period of your submission
(see below the 4 evaluation periods during which you can submit your
application);
- The organization committee of the event will be expected to actively promote and distribute application forms for SPB membership during the event; and
- Payment of the sponsorship will only be carried out upon reception of the meeting's documentation showing that the SPB sponsorhip is clearly visible in the meeting / workshop flyers and posters (see below for the SPB logo instructions).
To apply, simply write a letter to the President of
the Executive Committee of SPB stating:
- The location of the event;
- The purpose of the event;
- The date(s) of the event;
- The composition of the organizing committee of
the event;
- The expected number of delegates;
- The program of the event, even if not final;
- The link of the meeting's web site, if available.
The letter and any documentation needed for the evaluation
of your application must be sent to the Secretariat
of SPB. Evaluations of applications will be carried out within 15
days after the end of each submission period, namely:
- January - March: 1-15 April (sponsorship
applications for meetings starting not earlier than
30 June);
- April - June: 1-15 July (sponsorship applications for meetings starting not earlier than 30 September)
