The Biochemistry of Ageing and Regeneration thematic group aims to facilitate the sharing of experiences and the exchange of knowledge among researchers working in fundamental, translational, and applied science. The focus is on how ageing triggers molecular and cellular changes that contribute to the decline in the function of tissues or organs, as well as in the context of regenerative medicine. Increasing knowledge and technical advances in various approaches — from cell-based to non-cell-based therapies — alongside the discovery of molecular biomarkers of ageing, will enable a personalised approach to slowing down or counteracting ageing. Processes involving the replacement or restoration of damaged cells, tissues, and even organs to halt or delay the progression of age-related diseases are central to the group’s interests. This thematic group will meet regularly to network, share best practices, and discuss their areas of interest both in person and online. By providing a forum for knowledge sharing and collaboration, the group aims to support the necessary changes to foster increasingly “impact-driven” research on ageing and regeneration. Workshop events will feature a range of experts discussing the topic, and participants will be encouraged to contribute by sharing their experiences and asking questions. These events will also create opportunities to identify community interests on the subject and promote understanding of debates in social gerontology.
